August 21, 1930 - December 28, 2018
Mary Louise Rands, passed away December 28th, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois. She was born August 21, 1930 in Galena Park, Texas, to W. Randall and Frances Robb, nee Powers. Mary graduated from Will Rogers High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1948 and St. John’s School of Nursing, Tulsa in 1951. She worked on the Neuromedicine floor at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis until her retirement in 1988, but was always a nurse at heart. Some of her favorite activities were singing, gardening, painting, sewing, knitting, feeding the birds and taking care of everyone. She would do anything for anyone who needed her, whether they were family or not. There are people all over the world who will remember her kindness forever. In her later years, she would always leave a can of Pepsi for the postal and sanitation workers. This was just one of her many thoughtful gestures. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Hazel Kennedy Robb, her husband of 46 years, David G. Rands, her sister-in-law and husband Jacqueline (Jim) Ehlenfeldt, brother-in-law Bill Hopper, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Williams Marek. She will be sadly missed by her older sister, Glyndoris Hopper of Tulsa, OK; children Mary Frances (Jim) Collins, Collinsville, IL, David W. (Lynda) Rands, Glen Carbon, IL, and Carolyn (Gary) Williams of Collinsville, IL; nieces Mary (Greg) Brown, Chicago and Beata Arcuri, Ina, IL; nephews William Hopper, Miami, FL, and Gene (Evelyn) Beckman, Lake Zurich, IL; grandchildren Brian (Emily) Collins, Troy, IL, Daniel (Elizabeth) Collins, Belleville, IL, Patrick (Cynthia) Collins, Collinsville, IL, Michael Collins, Belleville, Kate Rands, St. Louis, MO, David A. Rands, Glen Carbon, IL, and Jacob (Bridget) Williams, Caseyville, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a future date and donations in her name may be made to Doctors Without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.org) or the American Refugee Committee (arcrelief.org). She would love to keep helping people forever.
